Rangers reach Scottish Cup final with victory over St Mirren

Philippe Clement hails Cyriel Dessers as 'in the form of his career' after double

Rangers will face Celtic in the Scottish Cup final after beating St Mirren 2-0 at Hampden Park.

Cyriel Dessers scored both goals for the Ibrox side, taking his tally for the season to 13. The Belgian striker opened the scoring in the first half with a close-range finish from Malik Tillman's cross.

He then doubled Rangers' lead in the second half with a header from James Tavernier's free-kick. St Mirren offered little threat to Rangers throughout the match, with the Ibrox side controlling possession and creating the better chances.

Rangers will now face Celtic in the Scottish Cup final on May 27. It will be the first time the two sides have met in the final since 2002, when Celtic won 3-2.

Speaking after the match, Rangers manager Philippe Clement said: "I'm very happy with the performance and the result. We controlled the game from start to finish and created a lot of chances.

"Cyriel Dessers was in excellent form today. He took his goals very well and was a constant threat to the St Mirren defence."

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson said: "We're disappointed with the result, but I thought my players gave a good account of themselves.

"Rangers are a very good side and they were simply too strong for us today. We wish them all the best in the final."
